This is, of course, tricky because many of us have a\nsweet tooth, thanks to diets that are rich in sugary tastiness. The more sugar\nwe have eaten over the years, the more our body craves it now. It\u2019s just the\nway of things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of San Francisco reported that\nin the US, the average person consumes about 66 pounds of added sugar per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, eliminating sugar from your diet could\nsave you from myriad health problems in the future. Here are ten reasons why\nyou should consider dropping the white stuff altogether:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sugar Is Linked To\nDepression<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sugar is on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prevention.com\/food\/foods-cause-depression\">Prevention\u2019s list of 5 foods that\ncause depression<\/a> &#8211; and for good reason. Multiple studies have suggested that there\nis a link between a diet rich in sugar and depression. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important to remember that the foods you\neat don\u2019t just release their nutrients, sugars, and calories into your belly\nand thighs; they also send them up to your brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sugar Is Linked To\nObesity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2014, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/news\/2014\/01January\/Pages\/sugar-obesity-qa.aspx\">NHS responded to an alarming headline\nby UK newspaper The Daily Mail that\nclaimed, \u201csugar is the new tobacco.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NHS found that the link between sugar and\nobesity is indeed very real, and is caused because sugar is loaded with empty\ncalories (energy) that your body stores for later days. Only, the later days\nnever come and eventually all that built-up energy is turned into fat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sugar Is Linked To\nHigh Blood Pressure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More and more American\u2019s are being diagnosed\nwith high blood pressure, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/high-blood-pressure\/in-depth\/high-blood-pressure\/art-20046974\">Mayo Clinic suggest that a poor diet\nis one of the biggest risk factors<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more sugar you eat, the more your bad\ncholesterol levels surge, which in turn boosts your blood sugar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sugar Increases Your Risk Of Heart Attack<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It doesn\u2019t matter how much you weigh, consuming\nmore sugar just improves your chances of having a heart attack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Figures in the past have shown that people who\nconsume 25% more sugar than everyone else have a stronger chance of dying of a\nheart attack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sugar Is Addictive<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While sugar is not classed as a drug, <a href=\"https:\/\/authoritynutrition.com\/10-similarities-between-junk-foods-and-drugs\/\">its effects are similar to heroin<\/a>.
