Some would say that the high fat content consumed in this diet is bad\nfor you, but many folks have been very successful on their weight loss journey\non the Keto Diet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea is that by drastically reducing your carbohydrate\nintake, your body goes into a metabolic state called ketosis. When your body\nenters into ketosis, it becomes very efficient at burning fat for energy\ninstead of carbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are other health benefits as well\u2026by turning fat into\nketones in the liver, your body also supplies energy for the brain. Eating keto\nhas also been known to significantly reduce blood sugar and insulin levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ketogenic diet has several different versions, but the\n\u201cstandard\u201d keto diet usually uses the macros of 10% carbs, 20% protein and 70%\nfat. It isn\u2019t the typical Low Carb diet that allows you to eat protein as much\nas you would like. It\u2019s important to keep your protein consumption at a\nmoderate level. Protein can be converted into glucose if you have too much and\nit might slow the ketosis transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also important to choose healthy fats \u2013 healthy oils\n(olive, avocado, coconut for instance), eggs, salmon, nuts and nut butters,\navocados and olives to name a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will find yourself reading labels ALL THE TIME. And you\nshould! Most people who are doing keto count \u201cnet carbs,\u201d which is the amount\nof carbohydrates minus the fiber.
